Boxes and Decks

Boxes are how you organize scanned cards in TCG Inventory — the digital equivalent of a physical storage box, binder, or deck box. Open My Collection → Boxes and Decks (/boxes) to see every box and deck for your currently selected TCG.

Boxes vs. decks​

When you create an organizer, you choose one of two types:

  • Storage box — free-form. Starts with one section ("Section 1") and you can add as many more as you like. Use this for bulk storage, binders by set, or however you physically sort your cards.
  • Deck — a fixed structure with exactly two sections: Main deck and Sideboard. You can't add extra sections to a deck. Decks are tagged separately so you can filter them out of your general collection view (see Organizing Cards).

Storage boxes and decks are numbered independently — you might have "Box #1" and "Deck 1" at the same time; the # only appears on storage boxes.

Creating a box or deck​

Select Add box or deck from the list header (or the empty-state button if you have none yet). In the dialog:

  1. Enter a name (e.g. "Modern Collection" or "Standard Boros Aggro"). Storage boxes get a few suggested names as badges you can click.
  2. Choose the box type — Storage box or Deck.
  3. Optionally add a description (up to 500 characters).
  4. Select Create box / Create deck.

A preview always shows what number/label the new box or deck will get before you confirm.

Browsing your boxes​

Each card in the list shows:

  • An icon (orange package for storage, blue numbered layers for a deck) and its display number or name
  • A star toggle to pin it near the top of your list (this is a personal, local preference — not shared)
  • Section and card counts, plus a "Pinned" badge if starred
  • Creation/edit dates and your description, or "No notes yet"

Hovering a box previews its stats (sections, cards, "move span") along with thumbnails of its first and last card.

Use the filter box to search by name, and the Mixed / Grouped layout toggle to either interleave decks and boxes or show decks separately from storage boxes.

Selecting a box opens the Box Inspector — a side panel with its full details, without leaving the list. The URL updates to /boxes/{id} so you can bookmark or share a direct link to it (the browser back/forward buttons work as expected too).

Inside the inspector​

  • Rename the box or deck inline.
  • Description — add or edit a short note; shows "No description yet" when empty.
  • Sections — a searchable list of every section, each showing whether it's empty, has exactly one card, or more, with thumbnails of its first and last card. Selecting a section opens its full card grid.
  • Actions menu:
    • Card Finder — jump into Card Finder pre-filtered to this box.
    • Share — create a read-only public link; see Sharing a Box.
    • Add Section (storage boxes only).
    • Export — download the box's cards in your chosen format.
    • Delete — permanently removes the box. If it still contains cards, you're warned exactly how many cards and sections will be affected; deleting doesn't delete the cards themselves, it just unassigns their location.

Sections​

A section is a named subdivision of a box — think of it as one physical stack or divider inside the box. Open any section to see its card grid, where you can:

  • Search cards within that section
  • Switch between Select mode (to build up a Card Tray selection for moving/deleting) and View mode (to browse and open card details)
  • Apply the same TCG-specific filters used elsewhere in the app, and open Collection Stats scoped to just this section
  • Choose how many columns the grid displays (3–8)
  • Move all to… another section in one action
  • Scan into this section directly from an empty section, which pre-sets your next scan's destination

Every card shows its position in the stack (Pos: N of M) — this is what makes Card Finder able to tell you exactly where a physical card sits.

There's no drag-and-drop reordering; moving cards (individually or by the boxful) always goes through the Card Tray's Move to… flow, which appends moved cards to the end of the destination section.

Deleting a box or deck​

From the inspector's Actions menu, select Delete Box / Delete deck. You'll be asked to confirm, with an explicit warning if the box still holds cards — those cards aren't deleted, they simply lose their box/section location and return to your general (unassigned) pool.

Exporting​

Any box, deck, or individual section can be exported via Export in its actions menu. You choose the export format and which fields to include before downloading.
