Account Setup
Before you can start scanning cards, you need a TCG Inventory account. Sign-in is passwordless — there is no password to remember, forget, or reset. Everything works through a one-time "magic link" sent to your email.
Creating your account
- Go to tcg-inventory.com/signup.
- Enter a Username (3–30 characters; letters, numbers, and underscores only) and your Email. As you type a username, the form checks its availability live and shows either "Username is available" or a reason it isn't (too short, already taken, contains invalid characters, or reserved).
- Check the box to accept the Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, and Cookie Policy. This is required.
- Optionally check the box to receive product update emails — this is not required.
- Select Create Account.
:::info Access is invite-based Sign-up is currently limited to selected beta testers. If you weren't given access, you'll need an invite before you can create an account. :::
Verifying your email
After signing up, you'll see a "Verify your email" screen telling you a verification link was sent to your inbox. Open the email and follow the link — this signs you in and takes you straight to the onboarding wizard.
If you already have an account under that email address, TCG Inventory quietly sends a normal sign-in link instead of showing an error — so mistyped sign-ups never reveal whether an email is already registered.
Signing in
- Go to tcg-inventory.com/signin.
- Enter your account email and select Send Login Link.
- You'll see a "Check your email" confirmation. Open the email on any device and follow the link to be signed in and taken to your Home dashboard.
There is no username/password form, no "remember me" option, and no social sign-in (Google, etc.) at this time. If you enter an email that isn't registered, you'll still see the generic "check your email" message — for privacy, the app never confirms whether an address has an account.
Registering your scanning machine
Each Card Butler scanning machine ships with a unique 12-character transfer code that only appears on the device itself during setup. To link it to your account:
- Sign in and open Inventorize → Machines in the sidebar (or go directly to
/machines). - If this is your first machine, the Add a machine panel is already expanded. Otherwise, select it to expand it.
- Follow the six-step tutorial shown in the panel:
- Plug in your machine. On first boot it automatically enters setup mode.
- On your phone, connect to the machine's Wi-Fi. Join the network that starts with
CardButler— no password needed. This network has no internet access; that's expected while pairing. - Open
cardbutler.localin your phone's browser while still connected to that network (a Copy button is provided). - Select your home Wi-Fi from the list shown on the device's setup page, enter its password, and press Connect to Network.
- Request the registration code by pressing Request Registration Code on the device's setup page — a 12-character code appears.
- Enter that code into the Transfer Code field on the Machines page in the app.
- Give the machine a Machine Name you'll recognize (e.g. "Machine 1").
- As soon as you finish typing a 12-character code, the app automatically verifies it with the device over the network — you'll see a spinner, then a green confirmation with the device's MAC address once verified.
- Select Register Machine.
Once verification succeeds, you're redirected to the machine's detail page with a confirmation that your scanner is paired and ready. See Machines for everything you can do from there.
:::tip Code not appearing on the device? Make sure the device is connected to your Wi-Fi (steady LED) and request a new code from its setup page — codes are one-time and expire. :::
Next steps
- Finish the Onboarding wizard if you haven't already — it tailors the app to how you collect.
- Head to Your First Scan once your machine is registered and online.
